On May 3rd, the 16th National Archery Cup 2013 officially opened in Vinh Long.

This year's tournament brings together 130 male and female archers from 14 provinces and cities with a strong archery tradition across the country: Hai Phong, Phu Tho, Hung Yen, Bac Kan, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Thanh Hoa, Vinh Phuc, Quang Ninh, Dong Thap, Soc Trang, Tra Vinh, Can Tho, and Vinh Long.

In the tournament, athletes compete in individual, mixed doubles, and team events. Male athletes compete in recurve and compound archery at distances of 90m, 70m, 50m, and 30m.

Female athletes competed in the same events at the following distances: 70m, 60m, 50m, and 30m. Immediately after the opening ceremony, athletes competed in the men's 3-string archery event at 90m and 70m distances, and the women's 1-string archery event at 70m and 60m distances.

Mr. Pham Van Huong, Acting Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vinh Long province and Head of the Organizing Committee of the tournament, said: The National Archery Cup is a tournament within the national high-performance sports competition system, held annually to test and evaluate the achievements of athletes.

Through these competitions, outstanding athletes will be selected to supplement the national team participating in international archery tournaments, especially to prepare for the 2013 Southeast Asian Games in Myanmar and the 2019 Asian Games hosted by Vietnam.

In addition, alongside the National Archery Cup, Vinh Long province also organized an archery competition within the framework of the 5th Mekong Delta Sports Festival in 2013. The 16th National Archery Cup will conclude on May 10, 2013.
