Woman sentenced to 15 years in prison for beating her husband to death.

(Baonghean.vn) - On July 14, the Nghe An Provincial People's Court brought the case of Nguyen Thi Lien (born in 1961, residing in Nam Hung commune, Nam Dan district) to trial for the crime of murder, the victim being her husband.

According to the indictment from the Prosecutor's Office, at approximately 7:30 PM on April 8, 2014, at the couple's home, after dinner, the husband turned on the television for his wife to watch and then went to bed. Around midnight, Mrs. Lien turned off the television and went to bed with her husband.The husband wanted to have sex, but Mrs. Lien refused. He then verbally abused her, punched and kicked her, causing her nose to bleed, and dragged her outside to continue the beating. They struggled, and the husband ran into the house, grabbed an iron bar, and struck Mrs. Lien three times.

After managing to grab the iron bar, Mrs. Lien repeatedly struck her husband on the head. During the attack, she dropped the iron bar, which her husband picked up. Fearing retaliation, Mrs. Lien ran to him, grabbed a hoe, and struck him twice on the head and neck, causing him to collapse. After committing the crime, Mrs. Lien washed her hands and went inside to sleep. Around 6 a.m. the next morning, she asked a neighbor to take her husband to the hospital, but he was already dead. Around 1 p.m. on April 9, 2014, Mrs. Lien surrendered to the Nam Dan District Police.

At the trial, the defendant Lien honestly confessed to her crime. Her three children, representing the victim and also Lien's biological children, asked the court to reduce their mother's sentence. After consideration, the panel of judges sentenced Nguyen Thi Lien to 15 years in prison for murder.
