(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of July 31st, the People's Court of Nghe An province held a public trial for a child trafficking case. Those prosecuted in this case are Vi Thi Thu (born in 1975), Lu Thi Thom (born in 1984), both residing in Huu Kiem commune (Ky Son district, Nghe An province), and Luong Thi Hanh (born in 1973, residing in Chieu Luu commune, Ky Son district).

According to the indictment, Vi Thi Thu called a Vietnamese person living in China to inquire about finding people to sell to China. This person told her that selling an ordinary person would fetch 90 million VND, and that a beautiful person would command a higher price. Thu then asked Hanh to find someone to take to China. Hanh then recruited Thom to participate. On November 27, 2013, Thom and her husband, Moong Van Thuy, tricked Thom's aunt into handing over her niece, Cut Thi T (born November 7, 2001), to Thom and her husband. Afterward, Thom and her husband handed T over to Hanh, who then handed her over to Thu. On the evening of November 29, 2013, Vi Thi Thu took a bus to China to sell T. Upon reaching Anh Son district, they were discovered and arrested by a task force from the Traffic Police Department of Nghe An Provincial Police.

Based on Thu's testimony, the investigating agency arrested Luong Thi Hanh and Lu Thi Thom. Moong Van Thuy, however, quickly fled the area and is currently wanted.

Due to a serious illness, Luong Thi Hanh requested to be tried in absentia.

At the trial, Vi Thi Thu and Lu Thi Thom both confessed honestly and expressed remorse. Based on their roles and the severity of their crimes, the court sentenced Vi Thi Thu to 6 years in prison, Luong Thi Hanh to 5 years in prison, and Lu Thi Thom to 4 years in prison.
