157 people died in traffic accidents during five days of Tet holiday
The Traffic Police Department believes that many people drive under the influence of alcohol and do not wear helmets, causing an increase in accidents.
The Traffic Police Department (Ministry of Public Security) said that from the 29th of the 12th lunar month to the morning of the 3rd day of Tet (February 14-18), there were 194 traffic accidents nationwide, killing 157 people and injuring 136 others. Among them was a “particularly serious” traffic accident in Ca Mau that left three people dead on the spot.

On the morning of the 2nd and 3rd day of Tet alone, there were 89 accidents, killing 70 people and injuring 65.
Compared to the same period in 2017, there were 2 more accidents and 39 more deaths. Accidents occurred mainly in rural areas and on national highways.
According to the Traffic Police Department, traffic accidents are more complicated during the holidays because many drivers drink alcohol and drive too fast. In addition to speeding and lane encroachment, not wearing a helmet is also a cause of death in collisions.
The Department recommends that people in the coming days participate in traffic according to the law and do not drive after drinking alcohol.
