16 candidates are given priority in terms of height when recruiting to military schools.
The benchmark scores for some majors of the Air Force Officer School and the Military Science Academy in the Southern region will not be lower than in the North.
On March 16, the Military Admissions Board of the Ministry of National Defense announced some adjustments in the admissions to military schools in 2018.
This year, 18 military schools continue to enroll students based on the results of the national high school exam and take more than 5,000 positions. Except for the Military Medical Academy, the remaining 17 schools all enroll students in group A1, an increase of 6 schools compared to the 2017 enrollment season. In addition to group A1, military schools still enroll students in groups A, B, C, D as every year.

Regarding the admission principle, based on the total score of the candidate, including the total score of the exams/subjects on a 10-point scale for each exam/subject of each admission combination; plus priority points for subjects and regions and rounded to two decimal places. Schools consider admission according to the candidate's registered major; taking from the person with the highest total score down until the quota is met.
Similar to 2017, schools will apply a common benchmark for candidates who are soldiers and young people outside the army; determine separate benchmarks for male and female candidates; for candidates with permanent residence in the Northern region (from Quang Binh and above) and candidates with permanent residence in the Southern region (from Quang Tri and below) or for each military region. Candidates who are soldiers on active duty will have their admission scores determined based on their permanent residence.
The Air Force Officer School and the Military Science Academy will not fully comply with the above-mentioned separate standard score rule based on permanent residence. The Air Force Officer School will use the general standard score for admission to military pilot training for candidates nationwide, regardless of the South or the North.
For the Academy of Military Science, the national benchmark is applied to the majors of international relations in defense and foreign language training; implement one score.Common standards between admission groups A and A1 for Technical Intelligence training; D1 and D2 for Russian Language training; D1 and D4 for Chinese Language training.

Colonel Vu Xuan Tien, Head of the Military Admissions Secretariat, said that in recent years, the admission scores for these majors in the North and the South have become closer and closer. The priority scores between regions as regulated by the Ministry of Education and Training have narrowed in 2018. Therefore, the Military Admissions Board decided to use common admission scores for some majors in the two above-mentioned schools. This is to ensure the quality of the school's input and fairness for candidates.
"We will also use a common benchmark score between the admission combinations for the three language majors of the Military Science Academy because if we divide the D1 block into two quotas and the D4 block into two quotas, many good students will see that their chances of passing are low and will not dare to register," Mr. Tien explained.
In case there are many candidates with the same score, the number of admitted candidates exceeds the assigned quota, the schools will use the scores of the subjects in the admission combination as secondary criteria..
People's Public Security conscripts from 18 to 23 years old are eligible to apply.
The military school's admission targets remain unchanged compared to 2017. Non-commissioned officers and soldiers serving in the military according to the provisions of the law on military service, with a service period of 12 months or more; professional soldiers; defense workers serving in the military for 12 months or more; young men and women outside the military and female soldiers.
However, regulations on the age of candidates have been added. Accordingly, in addition to young people outside the military from 17 to 21 years old, active or retired soldiers and citizens who have completed their service in the People's Public Security from 18 to 23 years old are also eligible for admission.
Colonel Vu Xuan Tien said this was made to suit the reality that there are people's police conscripts who, after completing their service, wish to participate in the military school entrance exam..
Industries with female quotas are allowed to recruit at least two candidates or more.
In 2018, there are 3 military academies recruiting female students: Military Medical Academy, Military Technical Academy and Military Science Academy. The maximum female enrollment quota is 10% of the total enrollment quota.
In case 10% of the total quota of an industry is only one female, that industry can still recruit two female candidates..
16 ethnic groups with very few people are given priority in terms of height
Male candidates who are ethnic minorities belonging to 16 ethnic groups with very small populations according to Decree No. 57 issued in 2017 on regulations on preferential admission policies and learning support for preschool children, pupils and students of ethnic minorities with very small populations (including the following ethnic groups: Cong, Mang, Pu Peo, Si La, Co Lao, Bo Y, La Ha, Ngai, Chut, O Du, Brau, Ro Mam, Lo Lo, Lu, Pa Then, La Hu) applying to all military schools must be 1.6 m or taller.
Other criteria are implemented as for ethnic minority candidates in general.
