18 years in prison for murder at a wedding.

(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of July 24, the Nghe An Provincial People's Court opened a first-instance trial to hear the case against Nguyen Tien Manh (born in 1982) for the crime of "Murder" and Nguyen Tien Cuong (born in 1988) and Nguyen Hoang Van (born in 1984), both residing in Nghi Loc district, for the crime of "Disrupting public order".

According to the indictment, due to a conflict at a previous wedding, Nguyen Hoang Van and Nguyen Hoang Thong sought revenge against the Nguyen Tien Manh brothers. At 11:00 AM on July 26, 2013, when the two arrived at Moi Hamlet, Nghi Thiet Commune, to attend a wedding, they encountered a car carrying Manh's family, driven by Le Van Thang. Seeing this, Thong and Van blocked the car, provoked a confrontation, and assaulted them.

Seeing the dangerous situation, Thang opened the car door and tried to run away, but Nguyen Hoang Van caught him and beat him with a belt. At that moment, Nguyen Tien Manh and Nguyen Tien Cuong, who were sitting nearby drinking water, saw Thang being beaten. Cuong immediately ran out to fight with Van and some local youths. However, being outnumbered, Cuong was also beaten. Enraged, Manh grabbed two knives he had concealed and stabbed Nguyen Hoang Thong once in the chest, killing him instantly.

The suspects were arrested shortly afterwards. After considering the circumstances of the case, the court sentenced Nguyen Tien Manh to 18 years in prison for "murder"; Nguyen Tien Cuong and Nguyen Hoang Van to 9 months in prison for "disturbing public order," but suspended their sentences. Manh was also ordered to pay 120 million VND in compensation to the family and provide child support for Mr. Thong's two young children until they reach 18 years of age.
