On August 6th, Mr. Pham Luong Son, Head of the Health Insurance Policy Implementation Board under the Vietnam Social Security, stated that in 2012, the State budget will allocate approximately 2,381 billion VND to support over 6 million near-poor people in participating in health insurance according to Decision 797/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister.
According to this decision, the minimum subsidy for health insurance contributions for people in near-poor households will be raised from 50% to 70%. This serves as the basis for implementing social security policies aimed at encouraging universal health insurance participation in the coming years.
According to the results of the 2011 survey and review of poor and near-poor households, published by the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs in Decision No. 375/QD-LĐTBXH dated March 28, 2012, there are currently 1,530,295 near-poor households (over 6 million people) nationwide who are eligible for health insurance benefits.
