Two students from Nghe An province have been selected for the Asian-Pacific Mathematics Olympiad team.
The Asia-Pacific Mathematical Olympiad brings together outstanding contestants from many countries in the region. This year, the competition was held in Vietnam, and the selected students all achieved high rankings in the 2026 National Excellent Student Competition.
The Vietnam Institute for Advanced Studies in Mathematics (VIASM) - the unit assigned by the Ministry of Education and Training to lead the selection of students to participate in the Asia-Pacific Mathematical Olympiad (APMO) - has announced the list of 22 Vietnamese contestants who will participate in the 2026 competition.
This list includes two students from Phan Boi Chau Specialized High School: Nguyen Hoang Phuong, class 11A1, and Luu Trong Phuc, class 12A1. Both students won first prize in Mathematics at the competition.National Excellent Student Examination2026.

In addition, Pham Van Cuong, a student in class 12A1 at Vinh University High School for Gifted Students, was also selected for the Vietnamese team to participate in the Asia-Pacific Mathematical Olympiad. Prior to this, for two consecutive years in grades 11 and 12, Cuong won second and first prizes respectively at the National Excellent Student Competition.
All three students were also selected for the second round of selection for the national team to participate in regional and international Olympic competitions.
Besides students from the two specialized high schools in Nghe An, the remaining members come from many other specialized high schools across the country. Among them, Hanoi - Amsterdam Specialized High School (Hanoi) and Lam Son Specialized High School (Thanh Hoa) have the largest number of students, with 3 from each school.

In addition, there were students from schools such as the High School for the Gifted - Ho Chi Minh City National University, the High School for the Gifted affiliated with the University of Pedagogy, Bac Ninh High School for the Gifted, Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted (Ho Chi Minh City), Vinh Phuc High School for the Gifted (Phu Tho), etc.
The youngest student on the team is Bui Nhat Minh, a 10th-grade student from the High School for Gifted Students affiliated with the University of Education. This male student also recently won first prize in the national excellent student competition.
The Asia-Pacific Mathematical Olympiad was first held in 1989 for high school students. Each year, approximately 30 countries and territories participate with over 300 contestants.
The Vietnamese team first participated in the Asia-Pacific Mathematical Olympiad in 1996, but participation has been interrupted in recent years.
This year, Vietnam is hosting the Asia-Pacific Mathematical Olympiad, scheduled to take place on March 10th at the headquarters of the Institute for Advanced Studies in Mathematics in Hanoi.
