Two villages in Russia declare a state of emergency after being shelled.
A shell from Ukraine exploded in Russia's Belgorod region, injuring several people, the region's governor, Vyacheslav Gladkov, said on March 23.
Russia's Belgorod region is relatively close to Kharkiv, Ukraine's second-largest city. In a statement on Telegram, the governor of the Belgorod region said a shell was fired from the Ukrainian side and exploded in a village. The injured "are receiving the necessary assistance" and details on their condition will be announced later.
"For the safety of residents of Zhuravlyovka and Nekhoteevka, the Belgorod authorities will introduce a state of emergency in these two villages."

Responding to the incident, Chairman of the Russian Investigative Committee Alexander Bastrykin requested "a careful investigation of the incident and measures to identify all responsible parties".
The March 23 incident is not the first time that residents in a Russian region have been affected by the ongoing war in Ukraine. On February 24, when Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine, seven houses and one car were damaged in explosions in the Belgorod region.
The incident on March 23 injured two people and forced the evacuation of 178 people living in Zhuravlyovka and Nekhoteevka. 100 people are still in temporary housing centers and 78 have gone to their relatives or friends, Tass quoted local officials as saying./.
