2 barefoot thieves caused 11 buffaloes to "disappear" at midnight

Yen Son District Police, Tuyen Quang Province said that on the first day of the year of Mau Tuat 2018, the unit dismantled a case and arrested two subjects who stole dozens of buffaloes and cows.

The two subjects are Tran Van Kien (42 years old), residing in Thai Nguyen city, Thai Nguyen province and Ninh Van Dat (47 years old), residing in Song Cong city, Thai Nguyen province.

According to police documents, from early June 2017 to January 2018, many families went to the district police to report that their buffaloes and cows in the barn suddenly "disappeared" overnight.

Through professional measures, the police identified Tran Van Kien and Ninh Van Dat as having committed a series of buffalo and cow thefts in the communes of Trung Son, Phu Thinh, Tien Bo in Yen Son district and Trung Yen, Tan Trao, Minh Thanh in Son Duong district.

On New Year's Eve, a truck carrying buffalo and cows traveling from Tuyen Quang province to Thai Nguyen province was stopped by the police for inspection, and Tran Van Kien and Ninh Van Dat were arrested along with stolen goods.

According to the police, the crime methods are quite sophisticated, the subjects only operate at dawn from 0:00 to 2:00 when people are fast asleep.

Arriving at the chosen location, Dat went down to steal the buffalo and cows while Kien drove the car away to avoid making noise. Dogs discovered the situation and barked, making passersby suspicious. In particular, Dat went barefoot to avoid making noise when he stole the property.

After stealing the property, Dat contacted Kien by phone to turn around and pick up the buffalo and cows, put them in the truck, and then bring them back to Thai Nguyen province (Dat's house) to hide and sell as quickly as possible to avoid suspicion from the neighbors.

At the police station, the subjects confessed that they used truck with license plate 34K-7321 as a means of transportation and the assets they targeted were two types of valuable cattle, buffalo and cows that were easy to steal and sell.

The first crime was committed at the end of June 2017, Kien and Dat drove a truck from Dat's house through Dinh Hoa district (Thai Nguyen) to Trung Yen commune to steal a buffalo, sold it for 16 million VND, and the subjects divided the money in half.

Then, in mid-July, the subjects drove a truck around many districts and communes of Thai Nguyen and Tuyen Quang provinces, then stopped at Minh Thanh commune (Son Duong) to steal a buffalo and a cow and sold them for nearly 20 million VND...

According to statistics from the police, in Tuyen Quang province, Dat and Kien committed 11 thefts of buffalo and cows, selling for more than 300 million VND.

Expanding the investigation, the police agency also clarified the subjects who caused 12 buffalo and cow thefts in Bac Kan province, 4 cases in Thai Nguyen, 1 case in Lang Son and 1 case in Vinh Phuc province.
