Two general directors are competing for the position of Director General.

According to the latest decision signed by Minister of Transport Dinh La Thang, the list of candidates for the position of Director General of the Vietnam Road Administration includes 4 candidates.

Four candidates are vying for the position of Director General of the General Department of Roads. From top to bottom: Mr. Nguyen Xuan Cuong, Mr. Pham Huu Son, Mr. Nguyen Van Huyen, and Mr. Pham Hong Son.

The youngest candidate is Mr. Nguyen Xuan Cuong, 44 years old, from Ha Nam province, currently the Deputy Director General of the General Department of Roads. Mr. Cuong holds a Master's degree in Economics and is a civil engineer specializing in road and bridge construction.

The oldest person is Mr. Pham Hong Son, 54 years old, from Quang Ngai, General Director of Project Management Board 2. His qualification: road engineer.

The other two candidates are Nguyen Van Huyen, 52 years old, Chief Inspector of the Ministry of Transport, from Nam Dinh province, with a Master's degree in Business Administration and a degree in Construction Machinery Engineering; and Pham Huu Son, 53 years old, General Director of the Transport Design and Consulting Corporation, from Ninh Binh province, with a Master's degree in Engineering and a degree in Bridge Engineering.

At the Ministry of Transport's regular press conference earlier this month, Deputy Minister Nguyen Hong Truong stated: "Four candidates is still a large number. The Ministry of Transport believes it will select a worthy candidate to be the Director General of the Road Administration."

According to Mr. Truong, the judging panel will consist of 15 people, headed by a deputy minister.

The competitive examination is seen as a new mechanism in the personnel management of the transportation sector.

Except for the deputy ministerial level, which is appointed by the Government, the Ministry of Transport will hold competitive examinations for all positions within the sector.

It is understood that, following the appointment of the Director General of the Road Administration, the Ministry of Transport will hold a competitive examination for the position of Director of the Transport Department.

Last month, the Ministry of Justice held its first-ever competitive examination for the position of Deputy Director of the Judicial Academy, with only two candidates participating. The successful candidate was Mr. Nguyen Xuan Thu, 41 years old, Deputy Head of the Secretariat of the Ministry's Office.
