2 million VND for a pot of ornamental grapefruit for Tet

Bonsai grapefruit trees grown in pots are shorter than those grown in the ground, and the fruits and leaves are always well cared for and beautiful to attract bonsai grapefruit players. While normal grapefruit varieties are 1-3m tall and sometimes have to climb to pick, bonsai grapefruit only needs to reach out to pick the fruit.

With more than 10 years of experience growing ornamental grapefruit, Mr. Nguyen Van Hiep, Truong Thanh village, Dien Thanh commune, Dien Khanh district said: "Seeing that the market favors ornamental grapefruit, I researched information and characteristics of the tree and started growing ornamental grapefruit."

On average, he makes 100 pots each year, earning 100-150 million VND a year. This year, Hiep's family also planted 100 pomelo pots to supply to customers. He started letting the trees bloom in the 7th lunar month. Up to now, the pomelo garden is growing well, each tree produces 5-8 fruits on average, some trees produce 10-12 fruits. It is expected that in about 2 months, the gardener can sell to traders in Ho Chi Minh City, the price ranges from 1.5-2 million VND per pot.

According to Mr. Hiep, taking care of ornamental grapefruit pots requires meticulousness and care. During the fruiting stage of 1.5-2 months, grapefruits need to be carefully preserved to avoid fruit flies and always keep the color of the ornamental grapefruit beautiful. The more fruit, combined with a beautiful shape, the more valuable the ornamental grapefruit is.

According to local pomelo growers, up to now, the whole commune has over 10 households growing pomelos mainly supplying the Ho Chi Minh City market.
