Meanwhile, one of the five suspects arrested by Russian investigators since the start of the investigation into the murder of Russian opposition politician Boris Nemtsov declared on March 8 that he had an alibi.
"At the time of the murder, I was doing my usual work. Many of my colleagues can confirm this," Tamerlan Eskerkhanov, one of the five suspects, said when appearing in the Basmanny district court in Moscow.
Earlier, on March 7, Russian investigators arrested Zaur Dadayev and Anzor Gubashev in connection with the murder of Nemtsov. Later that same day, it was reported that two accomplices from the Caucasus region had also been arrested. According to a spokesperson for the Security Council of the Republic of Ingushetia in Russia, one of them is Gubashev's younger brother.
According to a RIA Novosti correspondent present at the Basmanny district court, the three remaining suspects in the murder of Russian opposition politician Boris Nemtsov have pleaded not guilty.
Boris Nemtsov, a 55-year-old politician who served as Deputy Prime Minister in the Russian government in the late 1990s, was shot dead with four bullets on a bridge in the center of Moscow on February 27.
Immediately after the assassination of Boris Nemtsov, Russian President Putin ordered the Russian Investigative Committee, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the FSB to form a joint investigative team to investigate the murder.
Investigators have been exploring several motives behind Nemtsov's murder, including questions about its connection to the current crisis in Ukraine, contract killing, or disputes related to Nemtsov's business dealings.
