Since 2002, Thai Binh Seed Company (ThaiBinh Seed today) has decided to establish a New Product Research and Development Department, the premise of the Crop Research Institute under ThaiBinh Seed.

Thai Binh Crop Research Institute is headquartered in Dong La and has a working department in Dong Cuong, and meets the development needs of the group. In particular, the pillar of science and technology is of special interest to the Group's Board of Directors. Currently, the Research Institute includes 3 departments, 4 experimental farms; the research office is organized to carry out 2 main tasks:

Firstly, research and development of new products with 3 research departments including: Department of rice research; Department of other crop research; Department of Biotechnology.

Second, carry out the task of selecting and producing Super-original breeds and parent breeds in experimental farms. The Institute has an experimental area of 140 hectares, 90 workers, of which 60% have university and post-graduate degrees. The research facilities are invested in and built systematically, suitable for current and immediate requirements.

During 20 years of formation and development, the Institute of Plant Research has researched and developed plant varieties with many results.

Labor Hero Tran Manh Bao - Chairman of the Board of Directors, General Director of ThaiBinh Seed Group said: The Institute has successfully researched many new rice varieties with outstanding characteristics such as good resistance and high yield. These rice varieties have been recognized and widely applied in agricultural production in many provinces across the country.

Specifically: The Institute has successfully researched many new rice varieties with outstanding characteristics such as good resistance, high yield, these rice varieties have been recognized and widely applied in agricultural production in many provinces and cities across the country. In particular, 33 plant varieties have been granted protection certificates, 28 varieties have been recognized as national varieties including: Rice varieties; Corn varieties, peanuts, Vegetable varieties, Soybean varieties... in which, there are outstanding varieties such as: TBR-1 recognized in 2007, contributing to changing long-term rice varieties and hybrid rice in the crop in the North such as VN10, 13/2, Bac uu 64; BC15 was ranked 2nd by IRRI and the Department of Crop Production among rice varieties produced in the North and Central regions in 2017. The variety developed strongly in the period 2009 - 2018, with an area of 700,000 hectares in some years and then remained stable until now, contributing to the benefit of tens of billions of VND for farmers each year; TBR225, a short-term rice variety with high yield and good quality rice, is accounting for a large proportion of production nationwide; TBR97, a product in cooperation with the Institute of Food Crops, has high yield, good quality, and is resistant to climate change and is being developed and produced nationwide.

In addition, there are: Thai Xuyen 111 hybrid rice variety, a product of cooperation with Sichuan Agricultural University (China), is a high-yield, good-quality rice variety with the largest proportion in the current hybrid rice structure; Corn varieties serving crop structure conversion such as: TBM18 waxy corn, TBM135 corn, TBM189 corn, NSK126, NSK207 for livestock and processing; TBS6 soybean variety... In addition, there are also TB25, TB29 peanut varieties, and some vegetable varieties.

Over the past twenty years, in order to serve the scientific research mission of creating many plant varieties with superior properties, serving farmers and contributing to changing the country's breeds, the Institute has applied new technologies such as biotechnology and gene technology to create plant varieties with superior properties. These studies do not stop at the issue of varieties but also extend to technological applications in the production and preservation of crops.

Accordingly, ThaiBinh Seed has successfully built and implemented the Project "Sustainable rice production and greenhouse gas emission reduction, participating in the implementation of the AgResults Project" and won the First Prize with an international award of 750,000 USD in 2021. The total prize for the 3 years 2019-2021, the Institute has brought in tens of billions of VND.

Since 2007, the Institute has presided over 50 national, ministerial/provincial and enterprise research projects and topics with an investment of 140 billion VND. Many of these projects have brought economic value and practical significance, contributing to the overall socio-economic development.

Regarding technology transfer and training: The Institute has implemented many technology transfer programs for millions of farmers, including training courses on cultivation techniques and crop management. This has contributed to raising farmers' awareness and skills, thereby improving production efficiency.

In the coming time, the Research Institute will focus on researching and developing crop varieties with better resistance to adapt to climate change such as resistance to lodging, drought, and flooding, while providing high productivity and good quality, creating superior products to meet the increasing demands of production. Researching crops for processing, thereby creating many value-added products for export and domestic consumption. Applying high technology in agriculture.

Accordingly, the application of new technologies in agricultural production will be enhanced to optimize the production process and minimize risks for farmers. In addition, it will strengthen links with businesses and research institutes; Link research results with production practices and create advanced and outstanding products and processes in production./.
