20 journalists killed in plane crash in Colombia

The tragic plane crash in Colombia not only wiped out an entire Brazilian football team but also took the lives of 20 journalists from that country.

According to AFP news agency, as of the end of Monday (November 28), 71 people were killed in a plane crash into the mountains near Medellin, Colombia.

Authorities initially reported 75 deaths, but it was later discovered that four people were on the flight manifest but did not actually board the plane.

Initially, almost all attention focused on the victims, who were soccer players from the Chapecoense team on their way to the final of the Copa Sudamericana regional tournament.

However, among the dead were also a significant number of journalists covering the match. They included veteran sports commentators as well as young reporters from local newspapers and radio stations.

Specifically, there are 6 employees of the Brazilian branch of Fox Sports, including famous live commentator and former Brazilian international footballer Mario Sergio; 4 other journalists from the Brazilian media giant Globo and 4 other journalists from RBS TV. Along with 6 journalists from smaller stations such as Radio Chapeco, Radio Oeste Capital and Radio Vang FM.

Among the six lucky survivors of the accident was a journalist, Rafael Henzel Valmorbida, a live football commentator for Radio Oeste Capital.

Another journalist who was on the passenger list was Ivan Carlos Agnoletto of Radio Super Conda, but he was lucky to escape death because he missed his flight.
