20 million dong in exchange for 20 years in prison

On August 22, the Provincial People's Court opened a first-instance criminal trial of Dinh Viet Dung (born 1993), residing in Nghia Xuan commune, Quy Hop, who was prosecuted by the Provincial People's Procuracy for the crime of "Illegal drug trafficking".

According to the indictment, at noon on March 26, 2017, Dung met a man named Hoai (specific identity not yet determined) who asked him to go to Tuong Duong to buy 60 million VND worth of drugs from a man named Cha. Hoai would pay Dung 20 million VND. Dung agreed.

On the morning of April 8, Dung hired a car to take him from Tam Hop commune (Quy Hop) to Tuong Duong. When they reached Trang bridge area (Xop Pu village, Yen Na commune, Tuong Duong), Dung told the driver to stop, turned the car around, and he walked up the hill, met Cha, handed over 60 million VND and received 2 packages of heroin.

After getting the goods, Dung went down the mountain and called the driver to pick him up. When the car reached Yen Hoa commune (Tuong Duong), the Tuong Duong district police discovered and arrested him. The appraisal results showed that the amount of heroin that Dung participated in buying and selling was 123.8 grams.

At the trial, Dung said that he had no job, and when Hoai hired him for 20 million VND, his greed led him to commit a crime. In 2015, Dung was sentenced by the People's Court of Quy Hop district to 9 months in prison with a suspended sentence, probation for 18 months for the crime of "fraudulent appropriation of property".

For illegally trading 123.8 grams of drugs, Dinh Viet Dung was sentenced to 20 years in prison by the People's Court.
