Manufacturer Corman decided to recall 3,100 Tampax tampons and Always sanitary napkins exported to the French and Canadian markets due to the discovery of toxic chemicals.

According toAFP, information from a French consumer newspaper60 Millions of ConsumersFive out of 11 sanitary napkin samples on the market were found to contain dioxin and other chemicals, according to the World Health Organization. Dioxin is a toxic substance that can cause cancer, reproductive problems, development and the immune system.

Corman, the manufacturer of Organyc tampons, has tested its own products and confirmed trace amounts of glyphosate, the active ingredient in the weed killer Roundup. The company is reviewing its supply chain because of controversy over whether the chemical causes cancer.

The manufacturer has decided to recall 3,100 products as a precaution. A Corman spokesman said that although the amount of toxic substance detected in the sample was very small and has not been proven to be dangerous, the recall is aimed at "putting the safety and health of customers first."

The French Institute for Consumer Protection has called for stricter government controls on feminine hygiene products and for transparency in the specific ingredients on labels. Meanwhile, products that come into direct contact with the most sensitive parts of the body have absolutely no detailed information."
