3,500 households in Vinh City are 'thirsty' for clean water
(Baonghean.vn) - For many years now, more than 3,500 households in Nghi An and Nghi Duc communes, Vinh City, have had to use water from drilled wells that do not guarantee quality, because there is no tap water.
Currently, nearly 2,000 households in Nghi Duc commune, Vinh city are still using water from drilled wells. Mr. Nguyen Van Thuan, Xuan Duc hamlet, Nghi Duc, said: Most households in the hamlet use water from drilled wells, and to boil or cook, they must filter it through a tank. Especially for households in hamlets near the fields, the pumped water is often contaminated with alum and cannot be used. The water filtered through the tank is only used for washing, and many households have to buy filters to get drinking water.

In Xuan Huong hamlet, Nghi Duc, nearly 70% of households have to buy water filters. The family of Ms. Nguyen Thi Hai Ha in Xuan Huong hamlet had to invest in a water filter to use water from a drilled well. Ms. Hai said: Although the well water is clear, after a while it becomes scum and looks very dirty. My family had to spend nearly ten million VND to build a filter tank and buy a water filter to get water for drinking.

Most households in Nghi Duc commune have invested in building water filters but only use them for daily use. |
Similarly, in Nghi An commune, 100% of households (2,100 households) are still using well water contaminated with alum and iron, which is not hygienic.
The solution of many households here is to build filter tanks (containing sand, gravel, charcoal) for daily use. In addition, some families also invest from 3 to 6 million to buy water filters.
Some households that do not have enough economic conditions still have to use water from drilled wells. Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy, Hamlet 12, Nghi An Commune, worried: The water from my family's drilled well is yellow when pumped up, after filtering through the sand and gravel tank, it still has a fishy smell. Every 2-3 months, I have to clean the tank so that the yellow dirt does not stick to the sand and gravel. Knowing that the water source is not guaranteed, my family and many households in the commune still have to use it.

Nghi An Commune has been moved to Vinh City for 8 years. Although it is a suburban commune, only about 10 km from the city center, for many years now, people still do not have tap water.
Mr. Nguyen Dinh Truc - Vice Chairman of Nghi An Commune People's Committee said: For many years, households in the area have had to use unsafe well water. Especially households at the end of the wastewater source of Nghi Phu Industrial Park.
Recently, the industrial park's wastewater has been discharged into the canal system. The wells of the local people in this area are only 3-4 meters deep, so it is very likely that the water source of the local people's wells is also contaminated by the industrial park's waste. Therefore, the people are very worried and hope that Vinh City will soon implement a clean water project to replace the water source to ensure the health and safety of the people.
