From November 1 to December 31, 2022, localities will organize military service health examinations for the 2023 enlistment period.

Medical examination is one of the steps to select citizens to join military service. Some notable contents are as follows:

Military service medical examination time

According to the provisions of Article 40,Law on Military ServiceIn 2015, the military service medical examination period is from November 1 to December 31 every year.

The time for the second medical examination to call citizens to join the army and perform their duty to join the People's Public Security in case of necessity for national defense and security reasons will be decided by the Prime Minister.

Do citizens have to pay for military medical examination?

According to regulations, the budget for health examination, health screening, health check-up, health assessment, and testing for citizens performing military service is used from the local budget to ensure national defense and security work.

Thus, citizens called for military service examination will not have to pay any costs.

What does a military medical examination include?

According to Articles 5 and 6 of Joint Circular 16/2016/TTLT-BYT-BQP, military service health examination is conducted in two rounds including preliminary military service health screening and military service health examination.

In which, the preliminary health screening for military service is the implementation of a preliminary health check and assessment for citizens called for a health check to perform military service before each selection and call for citizens to join the army. The military health screening is the implementation of a health check, classification, and conclusion for citizens called for military service who have passed the preliminary health screening and citizens who register for the military entrance exam, carried out by the District Military Health Screening Council.

In addition, in case of complaints, a military service health assessment will be conducted.

*Round 1: Military service health screening

Preliminary health screening is conducted by the commune health station under the professional and technical guidance of the district health center.

The examination includes detecting cases of physical infirmity, deformities, and diseases that are exempt from military service registration; Exploiting personal and family medical history.

*Round 2: Military medical examinationthe

For citizens who have passed the preliminary round, the District Military Service Health Examination Council will conduct physical examinations and clinical examinations of specialties.

Physical examination: During the physical examination, the person being examined must remove their hat, cap, and not wear shoes or sandals (barefoot, bareheaded): If male, must remove all long clothes, undershirts, and wear only shorts. If female, wear long pants and a thin shirt.

- Height measurement: The person being measured must stand straight, heels touching each other, arms hanging naturally, eyes looking sideways, vision is a horizontal line parallel to the ground.

- Eye test, the reader must cover one eye with a piece of cardboard (not with the hand) and while reading both eyes must be open (one eye is open behind the cover).

- Dental examination: number of teeth, cavities, chewing strength...

- Ear - nose - throat examination: Hearing test; Subjective feeling of rotating in different spatial dimensions or objects around you, accompanying autonomic disorders (pallor, sweating, vomiting, rapid or slow pulse). Objective disorders of loss of balance...

- Psychiatric and neurological examination: Examination of levels of sweating of hands and feet; myopathy; myasthenia gravis, eye blinking, mouth blinking, lip blinking.

- Internal medical examination: examination of syndromes of colon, liver, spleen, bronchus, heart, joints...

- Dermatological examination, surgical examination, obstetrics and gynecology (for female citizens).

During the examination, if a citizen is examined with one of the specialties ranked 5 or 6, the specialist is responsible for reporting to the Chairman of the Health Examination Council for consideration and decision on whether to continue examining other specialties.

In case of need for paraclinical testing to serve the health conclusion as required by the Military Service Medical Examination Council, including drug detection testing.

Organize HIV counseling and testing according to the provisions of the Law on HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control for cases that meet the health standards for military service every year under the guidance of the Minister of National Defense.
