3 main reasons why the textbook market for the new school year is unchanged
The shortage or scarcity of textbooks, which had occurred many years ago, did not recur this school year. The reason comes not only from the initiative of the Education sector in selecting books, but also thanks to schools maintaining a stable set of books, creating conditions for students to reuse old books, helping to reduce costs for parents.
Not much disturbance
The 2024–2025 school year marks the end of the 2018 General Education Program implementation cycle, with new textbooks being applied uniformly from grades 1 to 12.
In Nghe An, the selection of textbooks for the next school year was completed early by the Education sector, right at the end of the previous school year. According to reports from specialized departments under the Department of Education and Training, the selection of textbooks for the 2025-2026 school year was basically kept the same, minimizing changes to avoid disruptions in the teaching and learning process.

At Hanh Lam Primary School (Hanh Lam Commune), teacher Hoang Van Danh - Principal of the school said: "As soon as we received the document from the Department and the Department of Education, we organized a meeting of the professional group to evaluate the implementation of the new textbooks, thereby promptly adjusting. After 5 years of changing the books, we found that the textbooks from grades 1 to 5 have met the teaching requirements well, and teachers and students have easy access. However, withtextbookRegarding English for grades 4 and 5, the school is still considering it, because currently there are only 9 schools in the Cat Ngan area of the old Thanh Chuong district using it. If there is any change, the school will determine that it must be implemented synchronously to facilitate professional work."

According to Ms. Vo Thi Tuyet Chinh - Vice Chairman of Tam Quang Commune People's Committee - after 5 years of implementing the new program, schools have stabilized their teaching methods. Keeping the original set of books helps to inherit teaching experience, while saving significant costs for parents, especially in mountainous, remote and isolated areas.
Up to this point, according to reports from schools, changes in textbooks have occurred very rarely, only in a few subjects. However, these subjects are all on the list of textbooks approved by the Provincial People's Committee, so there is no disruption in the process of preparing and supplying books and it is convenient for teaching.
Mr. Nguyen Tien Dung - Head of Secondary Education Department, Department of Education and Training
Textbooks are discounted across the board.
Mr. Tran Xuan Toan - Director of the School Equipment and Books Joint Stock Company stated that there are 3 reasons why the book market is no longer scarce: the trend of using donated books and using old books is becoming more and more popular; the use of books in schools has basically stabilized, without many adjustments or changes like previous years, so students can reuse old books. In addition, at the end of the first cycle, because the demand has basically stabilized, publishers have been able to proactively print books, providing enough for consumers.
In fact, many bookstores in Nghe An have recorded a stable textbook market this year, with no shortage of books as before.

Besides, despite the transition to a two-tier local government model (eliminating the district education department level), book distribution is still guaranteed, thanks to direct and online sales channels and proactive contact between schools and publishers.
Currently, textbook prices have decreased by 8-10%, according to announcements from publishers. Prices of notebooks, school supplies and educational equipment have not fluctuated much, with diverse designs suitable for the market.

In the 2025-2026 school year, after the whole country restructures provincial administrative units, the Ministry of Education and Training also said that some textbooks will have to change content, including History and Geography (grades 4, 5, 9), Geography (grade 12), History (grade 10); Economic and Legal Education (grade 10).
However, the revision will minimize changes to textbooks, instead strengthening guidance so that teachers and schools can proactively implement the program in practice.
While waiting for new textbooks, according to the plan in the new school year 2025 - 2026, schools will still use the current curriculum and textbooks.
The supplier in Nghe An province has also issued a document announcing that it will continue to use old books and if there are any changes, it will commit to allowing schools, parents and students to exchange books for free.
