(Baonghean.vn) - In order to support people in overcoming the consequences of the historic floods on October 15th and 16th, on the morning of October 17th, the Nghe An Provincial Youth Union mobilized 300 young union members to participate in supporting small traders at Vinh Market.

The record-breaking rainfall in Vinh City caused severe flooding in the Vinh market area. The property and goods of the vendors were submerged. After the water receded, youth union members from the provincial youth union, the provincial police, the Vinh City youth union, and several universities and colleges in Vinh City participated in assisting the affected people.

The most severe damage was to agricultural and food stores. Being submerged in water meant these goods were completely ruined, resulting in total losses for the farmers. (Photo: Nguyen Hai)

Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan, the owner of a rice stall and one of the households most severely affected by this flooding, said that this morning, thanks to the help of youth union members and relatives, she will move all her undamaged goods to another location; those that were flooded will have to be dried. In addition to mobilizing 300 youth union members to support small traders at Vinh Market, today nearly 300 youth union members from universities, colleges, departments, and wards in Vinh City also helped schools clean up flooded classrooms; and assisted the provincial urban environmental company in clearing garbage and sand pushed up by the floodwaters along Le Nin Boulevard. Previously, on October 16th, hundreds of youth union members were also present at deeply flooded areas to support residents and students.
