October 31, 2011: The world reaches 7 billion people.
On October 27th, the United Nations Population Fund officially announced that the world's population will reach 7 billion on October 31st (an increase of 1 billion people in 12 years).
At the ceremony, Bruce Campbell, head of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Vietnam, assessed that there are a series of challenges affecting people's lives, such as the ability to provide food, clean water, education and healthcare, and rapid population growth.
The agency stated that by 2010, Vietnam's population was 88.8 million, with an urbanization rate of 3.4% and approximately 800,000-1,000,000 migrants each year, creating a significant demand for jobs, housing, schools, clean water, waste treatment, etc.
