32 years in prison for a group of cattle thieves.
(Baonghean.vn) -On August 29th and 30th, the People's Court of Tan Ky District tried the following individuals: Tran Van Tung (born 1974), Hoang The My (born 1963, both residing in Nghia Hoan commune); Hoang Nhu An (born 1967, residing in Tan Huong commune), Le Van Thang (born 1979, residing in Tan Long commune), and Ta Quang Khan for the crime of theft.
According to the indictment of the Tan Ky District People's Procuracy: from 2009 to 2011, this gang stole 33 buffaloes and cows from 23 households (5 households lost both buffaloes, calves, and cows). Their method was to track the buffaloes and cows grazing in the mountains and tie them in the yards, waiting until nightfall to steal them and then hire trucks to transport them for sale. Most of the households that were robbed were poor.
The court sentenced Tran Van Tung to 9 years in prison and ordered him to pay 132,300,000 VND in compensation to the victim; Hoang Nhu An to 9 years in prison and ordered to pay 150,700,000 VND in compensation; Le Van Thang to 8 years in prison and ordered to pay 74,000,000 VND in compensation; and Hoang The My to 24 months in prison with a suspended sentence. As for Ta Quang Khan, who had 4 previous convictions for theft totaling 18 years in prison and had just been released, he re-offended and was sentenced to 6 years in prison and ordered to pay 45,000,000 VND in compensation.
