37 students poisoned by milk tea at year-end party
Elementary school students had symptoms of stomachache and vomiting after drinking milk tea.
On the morning of May 21, 50 students of class 3B, Tran Phu Primary School (Quang Ngai City) had a year-end party and were given a cup of milk tea by a parent representative. 15 minutes after drinking the tea, 37 students had headaches, stomachaches, and vomited. They were taken to the Quang Ngai Maternity and Pediatrics Hospital for emergency treatment, of which 19 had to be hospitalized.

Ms. Do Thi Thanh Liem, the homeroom teacher, said that the milk tea for the party was bought by the parents at a shop on Ngo Quyen Street. "In the recent year-end meeting, the parents said they would buy milk tea for the party. I did not agree, but this morning the parents still brought it in," Ms. Liem explained.
After the poisoning occurred, the authorities made a record and confiscated 6 cups of milk tea to take samples and clarify the cause.
Doctor Nguyen Dinh Tuyen, Director of Quang Ngai Maternity and Pediatrics Hospital, said the health of the poisoned students has stabilized and the hospital is continuing to monitor them.
