39 hospitals approved as satellite hospitals
Thanks to the implementation of the satellite hospital project, it has contributed to reducing the overload of upper-level hospitals.
On the morning of April 16, in Hanoi, the Ministry of Health held a conference to review 2 years of implementing the Satellite Hospital Project in 2013-2014.
According to the Ministry of Health's report, after two years of implementing the Satellite Hospital Project, the country has 14 core hospitals assigned to transfer technology to 48 satellite hospitals in 5 specialties including: cardiology, trauma surgery, oncology, obstetrics and pediatrics.

Some satellite hospitals have mastered advanced medical techniques transferred by nuclear hospitals, helping patients, especially poor patients, access advanced technical services right at lower-level medical facilities, typically provincial general hospitals in Phu Tho, Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa, Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan, Lam Dong, Quang Nam, etc. Up to now, 39 out of 46 hospitals have had their satellite hospital projects approved by the Provincial People's Committee. The rate of patients having to go through referral procedures has tended to decrease, contributing to reducing the overload of upper-level hospitals.
In the coming time, the Ministry of Health will continue to promote the transfer of specialized techniques to nuclear hospitals and satellite hospitals; promote the application of information technology and supplement human resources for satellite hospitals.
Associate Professor - Doctor Luong Ngoc Khue, Director of the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management, Ministry of Health said: In 2015, the Ministry of Health continues to implement the Prime Minister's Notice 99, Hanoi Heart Hospital will be designated as a core hospital and 5 more specialized and general hospitals in other provinces will become satellite hospitals. Thus, we will have 15 core hospitals and 52 satellite hospitals nationwide. This is the adjustment, distribution, and transfer of technical efforts of doctors at upper levels and medical staff at lower levels./.
