4 automatic transmission failures due to user error
(Baonghean.vn) - Automatic transmissions are designed to last the entire life of the vehicle. However, due to negligence and lack of knowledge during use, car owners may have to pay a high price... The following signs can be easily recognized by users to promptly handle and avoid damage to the vehicle's transmission chain.
1. Oil leak
![]() |
The first and most common error in automatic transmissions when used is oil leakage in the transmission and differential seals. The cause of oil leakage is due to aging gaskets, warped seals due to strong impact contact, causing the gasket to loosen and leak oil. Oil leakage in differential seals is due to long-term use without maintenance or the differential seal is torn when not properly removed and installed.
2. Gearbox vibration
![]() |
When driving, you see the transmission vibrating and making noises. The cause is that the details such as gears, differentials, and friction discs in the transmission are worn and slipping due to impact, causing the above phenomenon... You should change the oil and clean the transmission of the vehicle from dirt to avoid friction between the discs and slipping gears.
3. Vehicle speed is not correct for gear
![]() |
When you shift gears and accelerate, the vehicle speed does not match the engine, the vehicle runs weakly, slowly, and cannot reach high speed. The cause is due to worn friction discs and damaged solenoid valves at the gears in the gearbox.
4. The car cannot be put into gear to move.
![]() |
This is a rare error. The condition of the car not being able to shift gears to move is due to a broken one-way joint or a broken turbine blade inside the torque converter of the gearbox... In this case, you will usually have to replace the entire gearbox for the car to be able to use it.
* Causes of gearbox damage
- Lack of oil:When the automatic transmission oil is below the “Min” level, the oil pressure to lubricate the moving parts in the gearbox will be reduced, and the oil valves will not operate properly.
- Dirty oil:When the gearbox is working, metal shavings are generated. If the oil is not changed periodically, these metal shavings will clog the solenoid valves and the oil line supplying the friction discs.
- Using the wrong type of oil:Each car manufacturer and model equipped with an automatic transmission may require different standards for lubricating oil for the transmission; usually the newer the car model, the higher the standard. When using substandard oil, the parts will quickly wear out, be destroyed, and the transmission may not even shift.
