According to Phu Ha representative, on August 1, 2015, the company signed a contract with Formosa Ha Tinh to handle 7 types of hazardous waste, including: batteries, waste batteries, waste fluorescent bulbs, electronic components, ink, oil drums, waste paint cans, etc. From October 2015 to June 2016, the company collected and transported to the factory in Phu Tho 4 types of waste: paint cans, waste metal packaging, waste fluorescent bulbs, and scabs. The total volume collected and treated was 142 tons, mainly paint cans and waste oil cans.
The leader of Phu Ha Company confirmed that Formosa had used up all the paint and oil contained inside the drums, so the amount of hazardous components that stuck was very little, only 3-5%. The waste was transported from Ha Tinh to Phu Tho by specialized vehicles and processed at the company's hazardous waste treatment system in Tram Thai commune (Phu Ninh, Phu Tho). "The specialized vehicles and waste treatment system have been licensed by the Ministry of Natural Resources to operate according to regulations," the leader of this company emphasized.
On the side of Phu Tho authorities, Mr. Nguyen Van Hau, Director of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment, said that the authorities have worked with Phu Ha Company to verify the incident. "The waste drums were sampled for analysis and inspection and a conclusion will be made later. If any violations are found during the inspection, strict action will be taken," said the Director of the Phu Tho Department of Natural Resources.
In addition to requesting Phu Ha Company to report, Phu Tho Department of Natural Resources sent a delegation to inspect the warehouses and check all the records and books of this company.
Responding to the press on July 14, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Tran Hong Ha said that the handling of industrial waste and hazardous waste has very clear regulations on responsibilities. Units operating in this field must be licensed by the central management agency if the waste passes through many provinces, and within the local scope, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment must issue a license.
