Along with the presence of a series of new car models, in the first half of 2022, the Vietnamese market also witnessed many car models leaving the race. Most of these are multi-purpose, high-chassis SUV/Crossover models.

In the first half of 2022, the Vietnamese market also witnessed many car models leaving the race. |
Some models have been temporarily suspended due to difficulties in sourcing components, causing a decrease in production. In addition, many models have been "discontinued" by manufacturers to make way for new models.
Here are 4 car models that have temporarily stopped distribution in Vietnam in the first half of 2022:
Ford EcoSport
After Fiesta, Focus, Escape, it is the turn of Ford EcoSport to be discontinued by the American car company in the Vietnamese market. This is not too surprising because this car line has had quite low sales in recent years. With the appearance of a series of new competitors such as KIA Sonet, Toyota Raize, MG ZS with low prices, Ford EcoSport seems to no longer be competitive enough.

Ford EcoSport first entered the Vietnamese market in 2014 and gave birth to the B-class SUV segment. This model monopolized the market share in this segment until 2018, when Hyundai Kona was launched. Since then, Ford EcoSport has faced fierce competition from its Korean rival and has gradually lost sales.
The death of the Ford EcoSport is not too negative news as the American car company has plans to replace this model with the Territory, which is larger and better equipped.
Hyundai Kona
After nearly 4 years of entering the Vietnamese market, Hyundai Kona has temporarily stopped production and distribution starting from June 2022. The above information has just been announced by TC Motor - the unit assembling and distributing Hyundai passenger cars in Vietnam in the company's latest sales report. According to TC Motor, the temporary suspension of Hyundai Kona assembly in Vietnam is due to a shortage of spare parts supply.

Previously, when TC Motor re-distributed the Hyundai Creta model in Vietnam, many sources said that this model would replace the Kona. However, in reality, TC Motor dealers still sell this model and information about the Kona still appears on TC Motor's official website. Although it is called a temporary suspension of production and distribution, in reality, Hyundai Kona has not yet set a date to return to the Vietnamese market.
Toyota Hilux
From the beginning of 2022 until now, Toyota Hilux sales have only reached 10 units, there are months when there are no cars to deliver to customers who ordered... The manufacturer and distributor recently also gave an answer about this pickup truck not being available for sale in Vietnam.

With Toyota Hilux, according to Toyota Vietnam, the main problem that prevents this model from being available for sale comes from the issue of meeting emission standards. |
The specific reason does not entirely stem from the shortage of components, semiconductor chips... Because, some other pickup models also produced in Thailand imported to Vietnam, more or less, still have a certain number of vehicles. As for Toyota Hilux, according to Toyota Vietnam, the main problem that makes this model not available for sale stems from the issue of meeting emission standards.
Specifically, the 2GD-FTV 4-cylinder, Euro 4 diesel engine on the Toyota Hilux cannot meet the distribution requirements. Therefore, after consideration, Toyota Vietnam has decided to temporarily stop importing and distributing Hilux pickup trucks.

The 2GD-FTV 4-cylinder, Euro 4 diesel engine on the Toyota Hilux cannot meet the new emission standards in Vietnam. |
A representative of Toyota Vietnam recently shared: “Vehicle models that meet Euro 5 emission standards are required to use fuel that meets level 5 standards. Meanwhile, in Vietnam, the number of gas stations with level 5 diesel (DO-V) is still quite small. If users fill in non-standard fuel, it can cause engine problems leading to damage. Therefore, the company decided to temporarily stop importing Toyota Hilux from January 2022."
Toyota Rush
Unable to meet the tastes and strict demands of Vietnamese customers, Toyota Rush was quietly removed from Toyota's product catalog in Vietnam.

Toyota Rush was quietly removed from Toyota's product catalog in Vietnam. |
Currently, on the official website of Toyota Vietnam, there is no more information and images of Toyota Rush, instead there are Avanza and Veloz. This is understood that Rush will be discontinued in Vietnam. Before being removed from the official website, Toyota Rush was distributed in the Vietnamese market with a single version priced at 634 million VND. Toyota Rush competes with many SUV and MPV models in the price range of 600 - 700 million VND, but does not have any outstanding advantages compared to its competitors.
