When asked about the essay that helped her win the 5.5 billion VND scholarship, Phuong Linh shared: “My main essay was about the days I made costumes for a fashion show and raised funds for charity at the SOS Children's Village Ha Tinh.

At that time, my friends and I made paper costumes. At first, it was very difficult because we were not familiar with it and were not proficient. However, when we found a reasonable solution together and consulted each other, we saw the effectiveness of teamwork.

“I think, at that time I was still young so I couldn’t control my emotions. But later, I realized the value of teammates in a common work,” said the girl from Ha Tinh.

In her supplementary essay for Dickinson College, Phuong Linh wrote about her love of classical music. She also wrote about Dickinson students who also studied this music genre. This made her feel that Dickinson students are well-rounded and close to each other.

In addition, in the supplementary essay, Linh also wrote about the red chairs placed on the yard by the school to show friendliness and care for students.

Phuong Linh, a former student of Ha Tinh Specialized High School, was known as the national runner-up of block A1, and double valedictorian of blocks A1 and D in Ha Tinh in the 2016 National High School Exam.

While a student at Hanoi Foreign Trade University, Phuong Linh decided to drop out to start looking for a scholarship to study abroad.

Not having the opportunity to go to training centers, I had to study at home mainly. To take the IELTS and SAT standardized exams, I bought reference books and searched for information on the internet. In addition, the national team training process also helped Minh Phuong a lot in equipping herself with knowledge and skills.

According to Minh Phuong, to make a good impression on American university admissions officers, in addition to academic achievements, essays and extracurricular activities are very important factors. Essays help them know about the candidate, and extracurricular activities help them see the applicant's spirit of dedication to the community.

From my passion for reading, I wrote about the books I read to send to universities. Both my main essay and supplementary essay to Smith College were written about this passion. My motto is that there is no need to try to change your personality or inclinations, but to invest in developing your personal strengths to find a suitable school.

Phan Thi Thanh Ha - 6 billion VND scholarship from Bryn Mawr University

Phan Thi Thanh Ha (born in 1999), a former student of Huong Khe High School, Ha Tinh, has just won a scholarship of more than 6 billion VND from Bryn Mawr University, USA. "In my application to Bryn Mawr University, I tried to show my true self: someone who doesn't like to compete, doesn't put pressure on herself, and doesn't force herself to be perfect.

Instead, I expressed my interest in traveling here and there and spent time exploring myself through my main essay," Thanh Ha said. It can be said that the turning point in studying abroad in the US and receiving a big scholarship to the American dream school of Phan Thi Thanh Ha came from her interest in experiential travel.

She wrote about how the trip with 13 complete strangers taught her to respect differences, to trust and accept the kindness of others, and to replicate it in her essay. From telling about small changes such as stopping to wait for others to go first, learning to listen, and eliminating gender stereotypes, the little girl showed the panel that she was a person who knew how to accept, change, and improve herself, thereby showing how ready she was to come to a new land and accept new things.
