4 border officers suspended for failing to detect trucks carrying illegal timber
Four border guards were accused of being irresponsible, allowing the illegal timber truck of the tycoon "Phuong Rau" to pass through easily.
On the afternoon of May 2, Colonel Pham Quang Hung - Commander of the Dak Lak Border Guard Command said that the Border Guard Command has suspended the work of4 officers at Border Guard Stations 747 and 749 for their involvement in his violationsPhan Huu Phuong (50 years old, aka "Raw Phoenix").

The four officers suspended from work include: Lieutenant Colonel Cao Huu Tung - Chief of Border Guard Station 747; Lieutenant Colonel Bui Khac Hiep - Deputy Chief of Border Guard Station 747; Lieutenant Colonel Pham Cong Khanh - Political Commissar of Border Guard Station 749; and Captain Le Tien Vinh - Deputy Chief of Border Guard Station 749.
"All four officers were suspended from work for lack of responsibility and failure to complete assigned management tasks. This caused bad public opinion for the industry as well as the force directly performing public duties in the locality," said Colonel Hung.
Earlier, in the early morning of April 27, the Ministry of Public Security caught two trucks carrying nearly 40 cubic meters of precious wood to Mr. Phan Huu Phuong's wood workshop in Ea T'Ling town, Cu Jut district, Dak Nong province.
The drivers admitted that the wood was loaded onto the truck from the "Phuong Rau" camp in Yok Don National Park (Dak Lak province). This camp is located about 500 meters from Border Guard Station 747.
Police then urgently searched the private home and wood workshop of "Phuong Rau", collecting many documents and evidence related to the wood trading activities of this "boss".

So far, Dak Nong Provincial Police have arrested Phuong and Nguyen Hoang Trang (37 years old, from Khanh Hoa, Phuong's trusted "junior").to investigate behaviorViolations of regulations on forest exploitation, protection and forest product managementas prescribed in Article 232 of the Penal Code.
"The investigation agency is summoning a number of related people to serve the investigation expansion," said Colonel Le Vinh Quy - Deputy Director of Dak Nong Provincial Police.
