4 million doses of Pfizer, the largest batch of vaccines Germany has donated to Vietnam, has arrived in Hanoi.
In early 2022, 4,000,230 doses of BioNTech/Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine donated by Germany arrived in Hanoi.
This vaccine support is carried out through the international vaccine allocation mechanism Covax in coordination with UNICEF and WHO in Vietnam.
This is the largest batch of vaccines Germany has ever donated to support Vietnam's vaccination campaign. In 2021, Germany has also provided vaccines and medical equipment to Vietnam many times. Together with this batch of vaccines, the total number of vaccines that Germany has donated to our country is over 10 million doses.
Dr. Guido Hildner, German Ambassador to Vietnam, shared: “The high number of infections and the emergence of the fast-spreading Omicron variant globally show that we will have a long way to go before we can defeat the pandemic. In 2022, Germany will continue to show solidarity with Vietnam in the fight against the effects of the pandemic and provide further batches of vaccines through the Covax mechanism. We can only defeat the pandemic when it is controlled everywhere.”

Ms. Rana Flowers, Acting United Nations Resident Coordinator and UNICEF Representative in Viet Nam, emphasized: "Global solidarity and the support of governments that have committed to Covax are key factors in ensuring that vaccines reach every corner of Viet Nam, as well as around the world, equitably.
The vaccines supported by the German Government will support Vietnam in its efforts to make vaccines available to all citizens, including booster doses. The Omicron variant threatens to increase the number of Covid-19 cases, and the Ministry of Health is working to ensure that everyone is vaccinated with a booster dose as soon as they are eligible. This will reduce the severity of the disease and prevent hospitals from being overwhelmed."
With this batch of vaccines supported by the German Government, Vietnam has so far received a total of 51 million doses.Covid-19 vaccinethrough the Covax mechanism.
The Covax Facility is co-led by the World Health Organization (WHO), the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) and the Vaccine Alliance (GAVI), with UNICEF as the lead implementing partner. The objective of the facility is to accelerate the development and production of Covid-19 vaccines and ensure fair and equitable access for all countries around the world.
