Speaking at the ceremony, Lieutenant General Le Hien Van once again affirmed the important role of the Ho Chi Minh Trail in the cause of national reunification. Exactly 60 years ago, implementing the policy of the Party Central Committee and President Ho Chi Minh, on May 19, 1959, the Standing Committee of the General Military Commission officially assigned the task of opening the Ho Chi Minh Trail to the "Special Military Task Force".
From here, the Truong Son military transport corridor - Ho Chi Minh trail was established and became a bridge between the great rear of the North and the great front line of the South. The legendary Ho Chi Minh trail was an important factor in liberating the South and reunifying the country.

On August 9, 1964, the 98th Engineer Regiment of the 559th Group opened a strategic mechanized road. On October 25, 1965, the first mechanized convoy of hundreds of vehicles named “Uncle Ho’s Green Light” brought goods deep into the battlefield.
In 1972, in preparation for major battles, this motorized road was opened to the North. Tan Ky district, Nghe An province became the starting point and that place was called Km 0 or milestone No. 0 of the historic Ho Chi Minh trail.
Today's program expresses gratitude and honors the dedication of our army and people, the great contributions of Truong Son Troops in the resistance war against America to save the country. From there, continue to encourage the younger generation to continue the tradition, be proactive and creative in successfully carrying out the task of building and protecting the Fatherland in the new situation.
