Libyan police said about 400 prisoners broke open the door and escaped from Aine Zara prison on the southern outskirts of the capital Tripoli on September 2.
The prison break took place amid fierce fighting between armed groups near the area. On the same day, the Libyan government, backed by the United Nations, declared a state of emergency in the capital Tripoli and its suburbs.
