46 border provinces and cities discuss solutions to respond to incidents, natural disasters and search and rescue
(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of February 28, the Border Guard Command held an online conference with 46 points in border provinces and cities nationwide to summarize the work of responding to incidents, natural disasters and search and rescue in 2017 and deploy tasks in 2018.
Attending at Nghe An bridge point were representatives of the following forces: Police, Military Command, Border Guard and departments, branches and sectors.
Due to the impact of climate change, weather and natural disasters in 2017 were unusual and extreme. Floods, droughts, flash floods, landslides, tornadoes... caused severe damage to people and property over a large area.
In Nghe An alone, in 2017, on the two border lines and sea areas, there were 71 incidents and 2 storms, 43 broken-engine boats drifting at sea, 9 labor accidents at sea, 6 falls into the sea, 4 drownings, 1 boat fire... killing 6 people, 4 missing, 7 injured, 30 vehicles sunk and damaged, 115 houses had their roofs blown off.

Nghe An Provincial Border Guard coordinated with localities and forces to effectively organize search and rescue, fight forest fires, and overcome tornadoes occurring in the area, using 2,094 officers and soldiers, 29 vehicles, boats, and cars, rescuing 89 people, 11 vehicles, and repairing 94 houses to help people stabilize their lives.
In their speeches at the conference, delegates also raised experiences, good practices, and difficulties, shortcomings, and failures to meet the requirements according to regulations in performing disaster prevention tasks of units and localities.

To limit damage caused by natural disasters, in the coming time, provinces and cities will continue to seriously implement key tasks in incident response, natural disasters and search and rescue in 2018, readying forces and means to mobilize promptly when required, ensuring to minimize damage to people and property caused by natural disasters./.
