Mr. Trinh Luong - the eldest son of capitalist Trinh Van Bo said that 5 family members want to sell the 3,000 m2 villa at 34 Hoang Dieu to the state to raise money for charity.

On November 5, 2017, Ms. Hoang Thi Minh Ho - wife of capitalist Trinh Van Bo (who donated 5,000 taels of gold to the state) passed away at her home at 34 Hoang Dieu.

Mr. Trinh Luong, the eldest son of the grandparents, said that after his mother passed away, his four younger siblings appointed him as their representative to discuss leaving the house at 34 Hoang Dieu to Hanoi City.

According to Mr. Luong, the house at 34 Hoang Dieu is only suitable for state-owned architectural works, and should not be used for private residence. Therefore, the 5 family members want to transfer this villa to Hanoi City at a reasonable price.

“I want to sell the house at 34 Hoang Dieu, part of the money will be used to set up a charity fund for Trinh Van Bo and Hoang Thi Minh Ho. The rest will be divided among our children and grandchildren,” said Mr. Luong.

Mr. Trinh Luong also said that the above plan has only been agreed by 5 out of 7 brothers. After getting the agreement of 4 brothers, Mr. Trinh Luong discussed the plan with the leaders of Hanoi City.

A leader of the Hanoi Department of Construction said that he had received instructions from Hanoi City to review issues related to the house at 34 Hoang Dieu.

Mr. Trinh Van Bo was a famous nationalist businessman in the mid-20th century. During the Golden Week in 1945, he supported the Provisional Revolutionary Government of Vietnam with 5,147 taels of gold. This amount of gold was double the government treasury at that time.

Mr. Trinh Van Bo's family owned the house at 48 Hang Ngang. After the August Revolution in 1945, the couple reserved the house at 48 Hang Ngang for revolutionary cadres to work.

House 48 Hang Ngang is where President Ho Chi Minh drafted the Declaration of Independence. Later, his family also donated this house to the State as a revolutionary relic.
