5,790 'For studious children' scholarships awarded to poor and disadvantaged children in Nghe An

On the morning of September 19, Nghe An Association for Promotion of Education, Department of Education and Training and Viettel Nghe An jointly organized the ceremony to summarize 5 years of the program "For studious children" and deploy the 6th year plan.

The scholarship program “For studious children” has been implemented by the Military Telecommunications Group, the Ministry of Education and Training, the Vietnam Association for Promoting Education and the Voice of Vietnam since 2014, with a total estimated budget of 260 billion VND nationwide.

This scholarship program is for outstanding secondary and primary school students with difficult circumstances who strive to study well and train well in communes in the 135 area and communes in coastal and island areas across the country.

Every year, Nghe An receives about 1.1 billion VND from the program. Each commune in the policy will be supported with 10 scholarships; in cash or learning tools worth 1 million VND/scholarship. In 5 years, from 2014 to 2018, Viettel Nghe An coordinated with the Nghe An Provincial Association for the Promotion of Education and the Department of Education and Training to award 5,790 scholarships equivalent to 5.79 billion VND to studious students in disadvantaged communes of the province.

In addition, Viettel has been implementing the “school internet” program. Currently, in Nghe An, there are 945 schools sponsored by Viettel with internet lines, with a total of 1,123 lines, equivalent to a sponsorship amount of 12 billion VND.

In order for the program to become more and more effective and beneficial to the community, the Steering Committee of the “For studious children” program continues to promote communication about the program, in order to motivate poor students; organize free courses to improve knowledge for children in difficult circumstances...

Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Dinh Viet Hong acknowledged Viettel Nghe An's contributions to the province's socio-economic development and its attention to practical actions to promote the development of Nghe An's education and training in recent times. The scholarship program "For studious children" implemented over the past 5 years has made great contributions and has profound social and humanitarian significance. He wished Viettel Nghe An to develop more and more strongly and continue to make many meaningful contributions to the community and society.
