On September 5, Gai and Be (both from Ba Ria - Vung Tau) were prosecuted and temporarily detained for 4 months by Xuyen Moc District Police to investigate their behavior.Abuse or torture of children or grandchildrenaccording to Article 185 of the Penal Code. In addition, Dao Van Be is also being investigated for the act ofHaving sexual intercourse or other sexual acts with a person from 13 years old to under 16 years old.
According to initial information, Gai got married and had two daughters, now 16 and 19 years old. After the divorce, she remarried and had five children, aged 2-10. After her husband passed away, Be sent her children to her grandmother in Cam My district, Dong Nai, then returned to Ba Ria - Vung Tau to live.
During the visits, Gai forced her children to drop out of school, took them to Xuyen Moc district, and together with Dao Van Be, forced them to beg. Every day, they took the children to Long Dien, Chau Duc districts, and Ba Ria city to sit at water shops and demanded that they "beg for 900,000 VND", otherwise they would be beaten by Gai's sisters. The child also used a mosquito racket to make an electric whip to shock her own nephew, leaving many traces.
At the end of June, while begging in Kim Long commune (Chau Duc district), a 10-year-old girl and her 6-year-old brother took a bus and ran away to their paternal home in Xuan Bao commune (Cam My district). After hearing the story, the grandmother reported the two Gai sisters and asked for help from the SOS Group in Cam My district and Long Khanh city (Dong Nai) to find the remaining children.
On August 27, the SOS team and the police found the children in a boarding house in Long Dien town. On the same day, Gai and Be were arrested by Xuan Bao Commune Police when they went to their mother-in-law’s house to look for their children. Initially, both admitted to beating the children.
Dao Van Be was also accused of having sex with his sister's two older children while living in the same rented house.
