The 5 most devastating storms in the past 10 years in Vietnam
(Baonghean.vn) - Over the past 10 years, many storms have hit our country, including 5 terrible storms that caused heavy damage to people and property. They are storm Chanchu, storm Xangsane, storm Son Tinh, storm Hai Yen, and storm Mirinae.
1. Typhoon Chanchu in 2006

The storm formed on May 8 off the coast of the Philippines. Although Chanchu did not make landfall in Vietnam, it swept into the shelters of offshore fishermen in the North East Sea. Chanchu claimed the lives of 266 people in the Central region, including more than 150 fishermen from Quang Nam.
2. Typhoon Xangsane in 2006

On October 1, 2006, Typhoon Xangsane made landfall in Da Nang, parts of Quang Ngai, Quang Nam and Thua Thien Hue, causing very heavy damage. The storm caused 19,736 houses to collapse and 69 people to die, and 2 people in Ha Tinh and Quang Binh were missing due to floods. Typhoon Xangsane caused 273,744 houses to have their roofs blown off or damaged.
3. Son Tinh Storm in 2012

The storm Son Tinh was formed from a low pressure area off the coast of the Philippines on October 23, 2012, and made landfall in the coastal provinces of Hai Phong and Quang Ninh. The storm caused over 7,500 billion VND in damage.
4. Typhoon Haiyan in 2013

Typhoon Haiyan was the strongest storm of 2013 and one of the four strongest super typhoons in history. Typhoon Haiyan made landfall in the northern provinces, sweeping through the seas of Thanh Hoa, Nam Dinh, Thai Binh provinces and landing in Hai Phong - Quang Ninh, killing 13 people and injuring 81.
5. Typhoon Mirinae in 2016

Storm Mirinae caused great damage in the northern provinces, leaving one person missing and eight injured; Hundreds of high-voltage power poles in many provinces and cities were knocked down, causing a province-wide power outage in the three provinces of Nam Dinh, Ha Nam and Thai Binh. The storm also left the provinces "devastated" with more than 196,000 hectares of rice flooded, the most severely in Nam Dinh with nearly 78,000 hectares, Thai Binh with 50,000 hectares. Nearly 21,000 hectares of vegetables were damaged; more than 5,000 trees were broken, of which Hanoi had the most.
