Five students from Nghe An province won prizes at the UPU International Letter Writing Competition.
The UPU International Letter Writing Competition is held annually to develop writing skills, creative thinking, and to help children engage with social and contemporary issues.
The Ministry of Science and Technology has just issued a Decision recognizing the results.UPU International Letter Writing CompetitionThis was the 55th edition of the competition. The organizers decided to award 1 First Prize, 3 Second Prizes, 5 Third Prizes, and 30 Consolation Prizes to the best entries. In addition, the organizing committee also awarded the Promising Writer Award and the Inspirational Idea Award to 71 other students nationwide.
The first prize in the competition went to Tran Chi Cuong, class 9D, Binh Han Secondary School, Thanh Dong Ward, Hai Phong City.

The UPU International Letter Writing Competition, organized by the Universal Postal Union (UPU), is for students aged 9-15. Each year, the UPU selects a prominent, global, and humanitarian issue as the competition's theme. Participating students not only hone their writing skills but also express their understanding and feelings about issues of contemporary significance.
2026 marks the 38th edition of the UPU International Letter Writing Competition, jointly organized in Vietnam by the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Education and Training, the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, the Vietnam Writers Association, Vietnam Post Corporation, and the Youth Pioneer & Children's Newspaper. The competition rules require participants to write letters on the theme "Write a letter to a friend explaining why human connection is essential in the digital world."

This is considered a topic that is both relevant and highly topical, with profound insights. Previously, at the competition launch ceremony, Tran Thanh Ha, Deputy Director of the International Cooperation Department (Ministry of Science and Technology) and Deputy Head of the Organizing Committee, stated that this year's competition theme emphasizes two aspects of the digital world: opening up unlimited opportunities for connection and learning, but also easily leading to human alienation, a lack of listening, and empathy. Therefore, the competition calls on everyone to reconsider the value of connection and transform technology into a bridge...
For students, this year's theme carries a profound message: In learning and life, digital skills are important, but the skills of listening, understanding, respecting differences, and collaborating are even more crucial. A timely greeting, a sincere sharing, a thank you, or an apology—seemingly small things—can bridge gaps, connect hearts, and build a safe and kind online community.
To launch this competition, starting in early January 2026, the Department of Education and Training sent a document to primary, secondary, and high schools throughout the province to promote awareness of the competition's significance and encourage students and schools to participate.
According to the plan, the closing ceremony and awards presentation for the 55th UPU International Letter Writing Competition will be held on May 8th in Hanoi.
