Colt M1911A1 Pistol. |
The history of the Colt M1911 pistol dates back to the early 1900s, when the famous designer John M. Browning developed a semi-automatic pistol for the Colt Company. The M1911 semi-automatic pistol was named after its introduction in 1911, replacing the revolver that was popular at that time.
The original M1911 weighed about 1kg and used a 7-round magazine. An upgraded version was released in 1924 called the M1911A1, which was aimed at user comfort.
After the patent expired, firearms manufacturers around the world were allowed to build their own versions of the M1911 pistol. Millions of these pistols were produced in the United States during World War II under U.S. government contracts.
In 2012, the US Marine Corps special forces were issued the Colt M45A1 pistol, an upgraded version of the old M1911A1.
