5 times in and out of prison and then murder, the perpetrator received a 20-year prison sentence

On December 28, the People's Court of Nghe An province opened a first-instance criminal trial of defendant Le Dang Tuan (born 1971), residing in Nghia Dan town, Nghia Dan district (Nghe An) for the crime of "Murder".

Tuan is a defendant with a bad personal history, having been sent to a re-education camp and imprisoned five times for the crimes of desertion, robbery, theft...

After being released from prison, Tuan often went to Mr. Tran Van Son's house in Thai Hoa town to work and stay. On August 1, 2021, while Tuan was sleeping at Mr. Son's house, he heard a noise outside and woke up. When he went out, Tuan saw Mr. Truong Xuan C. (born in 1989), residing in Nghia Yen commune, Nghia Dan district, and a friend come to Mr. Son's house to play.

Then, between Tuan and Mr. Son happenedconflict, arguing. Tuan cursed and was about to go into the bedroom when C. rushed over and punched him many times.

At this time, Tuan went into his bedroom to get a 52cm long knife hidden under the bed. Mr. C. kicked the door open to enter the room, but when he saw Tuan holding a knife, he stepped back and closed the door. Tuan used his shoulder to push the door open and then stabbed Mr. C. in the hip with the knife. After that, Tuan slashed Mr. C.'s shoulder and neck many times.

As a result, Mr. C. fell to the floor and died. The investigation agency determined the cause of death to be shock from blood loss and acute respiratory failure due to a wound that severed an artery and punctured the left lung.

After slashing the man, Tuan fled. At 5:30 p.m. the same day, Le Dang Tuan was arrested by the police along with the knife used in the crime.

At the trial, the defendant confessed to the crime as charged. Tuan said that because Mr. C. punched him first, he slashed him. “At that time, I was so drunk that I couldn’t control myself, but I didn’t intend to kill anyone,” Tuan told the court and apologized to the victim’s family.

The victim's family representative attended the court to request that the defendant be tried correctly and according to the law.

The panel of judges found the defendant guilty of a particularly dangerous crime, with hooliganism, so they sentenced Le Dang Tuan to 20 years in prison for murder. In terms of civil matters, the court ordered the defendant to compensate the victim’s family 182 million VND and provide for the victim’s mother one month’s basic salary (1.49 million VND) per month.
