(Baonghean.vn) - The steering system includes many expensive components on a car, so maintaining and promptly detecting damage to the steering system is extremely important. Below are some common steering system errors that drivers should not ignore and not repair immediately.

1.Heavy steering

The driver will have to spend a lot of energy and get tired hands when driving long distances if the steering wheel is too heavy. In addition, ensuring safety when moving at corners or many turns is no longer guaranteed, especially during rush hours.

When there are signs of heavy steering, the first thing to do is to check the power steering fluid level and the power steering pump. Usually, the power steering fluid is low or the power steering pump is having problems, possibly worn pump blades, leaking oil pipes to the steering rack, or scratched pump pistons. At this point, you need to go to a professional auto repair garage to get the most accurate advice.

2. Steering wheel is loose

The play of the steering wheel accurately reflects the play of the steering system. The cause of this condition is due to the joints including the intermediate shaft joint, ball joint, and steering shaft, which will wear out over time, increasing the delay when controlling the vehicle.

When the steering wheel play is too much, the driver needs to take the car to the repair center to readjust the steering bushing. The repairman will add more grease to the steering joints and readjust the steering bushing accordingly.

3. Slow steering

This is also a similar sign to heavy steering. The phenomenon may come from the pressure and amount of pump oil reduced, leading to the steering rack moving slowly each time you turn it or it may come from many other causes such as the drive rod is dry of oil, the friction force to turn it is worn out.

In this case, the driver takes the car to the repair center to check the car again. At this time, the car can be re-lubricated or the damaged joints can be machined or replaced.

4. Oil leak in steering rack

This is a fairly common phenomenon in hydraulic power steering systems. The main cause is due to oil leakage from the steering rack seal; the steering dust cover is torn, allowing water and dust to enter and damage the steering rack seal, causing the above phenomenon; the belt tightening the two ends of the steering rack is not tight, causing holes in the rod and damaging the seal...

Go to the repair center to check and fix. You can replace the steering rack seal and dust cover to ensure the steering system is not penetrated by road dust and water.

5. Unusual noise in the steering system

If you hear a "creaking" sound when turning the steering wheel all the way, it could be because the power steering fluid level is too low, or the power steering pump is not working effectively.

When turning the steering wheel lightly and hearing rumbling noises under the chassis, it could be due to loose or worn steering bearings.

An unpleasant squealing noise when turning the steering wheel may be caused by a loose drive belt for cars equipped with separate drive belts.

If you detect strange noises coming from the steering system, check the power steering fluid and add more if necessary.
