5 years in prison for man who trafficked his niece.
(Baonghean)On the morning of January 16th, the Provincial People's Court opened the first-instance criminal trial to hear the case of human trafficking against Tran Thi Huong (born in 1978, residing in Tam Bong village, Tam Quang commune, Tuong Duong district).
At the trial, Huong confessed that in December 2008, La Thi Bon (whose identity is yet to be determined) came to Huong's house and asked her to find some girls to sell to China. Bon would pay Huong 3 million dong for finding one girl. Greedy for money, Huong immediately thought of her niece, so she went to Bon's house, invited her to go to Vinh, and then took a bus to Mong Cai (Quang Ninh) to hand her over to La Thi Bon. Bon took both of them to China and sold T to a man for 770,000 yuan. Bon gave Huong 100 yuan for the bus fare home.
The court sentenced defendant Tran Thi Huong to 5 years in prison and ordered her to pay 35 million VND in compensation to the victim.
