Five years in prison for "prodigal son" who murdered his father.

(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of July 23, the Nghe An Provincial People's Court brought the case of Tran Van Sang (born in 1988, residing in Vinh Tan Ward, Vinh City) for the crime of murder to trial. The victim was Mr. Tran Van Nguyen - Sang's father.

According to the investigators: Mr. Nguyen was frequently drunk. Each time he got drunk, he would beat and chase his wife and children out of the house. On February 27, 2015, Tran Van Sang and his wife, along with his mother, went to his grandfather's house for a memorial service. Mr. Nguyen arrived later, already drunk, and cursed at and chased his wife and children away. Knowing his father's temperament, Sang took his wife and children home and packed their clothes so that if they were kicked out, they could stay at his wife's parents' house.

Tran Van Sang was escorted back to the detention center by police after the trial concluded.

About 20 minutes later, Mr. Nguyen also returned home, continuing to curse and chase Sang and his wife away, threatening to burn down the bedroom if Sang didn't leave the house. Overwhelmed by long-suppressed anger, Sang took a knife and stabbed Mr. Nguyen multiple times. Seeing Mr. Nguyen collapse in a pool of blood, Sang shouted for help and, along with others, tried to save his father, but he died on the way to the hospital. Sang then surrendered to the investigating authorities and confessed to his crime.

Before the court, Sang sincerely pleaded guilty and expressed remorse. The legal representative of the victim submitted a request for leniency for the defendant. Recognizing that the victim also bore some responsibility in this case, and that the defendant committed the crime while in a state of emotional distress… After consideration, the panel of judges sentenced Tran Van Sang to 5 years in prison.
