When you have a headache and medication isn't available, or for some reason you can't take it, don't think you have to endure the agonizing pain until it goes away on its own. There's a way to get rid of headaches that science calls acupressure.

Acupressure is a type of massage, its effectiveness confirmed by numerous scientific studies. Essentially, it's a form of acupuncture and reflexology, but it doesn't require specialized medical knowledge.

How to massage acupressure points

First, rest and relax. Massage doesn't take long: just 30 seconds to a minute.

The "third eye" point, or Yintang, is located between the eyebrows, at the junction of the nose and forehead. This point is also responsible for relieving eye fatigue.

Two symmetrical points located at the bottom edge of the eyebrows can be massaged to reduce runny nose and improve eyesight. Massage for about a minute by pressing or moving in a circular motion.

These points are located on both sides of the nostrils, directly below the eyes. To find them, gently press to feel a concave area at the bottom of the cheekbone. Massaging this point helps open the sinuses, relieve headaches, toothaches, and stress.

Two other points are located at the back of the head, between the ears and the top of the spine. Massaging these points helps relieve nasal congestion, eye and ear pain, severe headaches, and migraines.

The Shuai gu points are located 2-3 cm from the edge of the hairline. When you feel a small indentation in your ear, you'll find this acupressure point. Applying moderate pressure to this point provides quick pain relief and helps relax the eyes.
