AH-56 Cheyenneis an attack helicopter model built by Lockheed for the US military in the 1960s. The US military has placed great ambition on the project, which when operational will be the most powerful helicopter in the world, creating a revolution in air support. Photo: US Army.

The AH-56 combines high speed and powerful weapons. The helicopter is equipped with 2 rotors at the tail to increase thrust. Under the belly is a 30mm automatic cannon, the two side wings have 6 suspension points for anti-tank missiles or rockets. However, the Pentagon discontinued the AH-56 in 1972 because it did not meet the requirements. Photo: US Army.

B-70 ValkyrieThe F-15 was originally intended to be the most formidable strategic bomber in the sky. It was designed to fly at speeds of up to Mach 3 (about 3,300 km/h). At the time in the early 1960s, no weapon could stop it. Photo: USAF.

The B-70 was equipped with up to 6 jet engines. Its mission was to carry nuclear weapons to attack the Soviet Union if necessary. However, the advent of intercontinental ballistic missiles made its role obsolete, while the cost was too high. The project was canceled in 1969, 2 prototypes were built, 1.5 billion USD was "burned" on the project. Photo: USAF.

Due to the excessive weight, the tire system could not cope and exploded and caught fire fiercely when the B-70 landed.

A-12 Avengerwas an ambitious stealth aircraft project of the US Navy in the 1980s. The aircraft had a strange aerodynamic design in the shape of a triangle with weapons bays inside the fuselage. It would use stealth to secretly approach the enemy's shores and launch attacks. Graphic photo: McDonnell Douglas.

However, the project contained too many complex technologies, while the main contractor had not proven its ability to complete the project. The US Department of Defense canceled the project in 1991. This event contributed to the contractor's bankruptcy and merger with Boeing in 1997. Photo: Marvellouswings.

ARV unmanned reconnaissance and combat vehiclewas part of the FCS program. However, most of the FCS components were gradually phased out due to high costs and lack of proven effectiveness. In 2009, the FCS was canceled, and the US Army will apply separate modernization programs for each type of weapon. Photo: US Army.

Sea Control Ship (SCS)was a project proposed by Admiral Elmo Zumwalt, Chief of Naval Operations of the United States, in the 1970s. The idea was to develop light aircraft carriers carrying a number of aircraft to control the seas near the Soviet Union, instead of large aircraft carriers. Graphic photo: US Navy.

The SCS was a "split" force designed to increase flexibility while reducing the burden on escort ships in an all-out war with the Soviet Union. The SCS was canceled in 1973 as part of the US Navy's budget cuts. Simulation: Defensemedia .
