At the end of 2004, Mrs. Phat's family living in Van Chuong Ward (Hanoi) hired a worker to repair the pipeline. When digging about 30cm in the outbuilding area, a worker saw some bones that looked like human finger bones. Digging a few dozen centimeters wider, a whole intact skeleton was revealed...

Investigating the case, the police determined that on July 20, 2002, the family of Mr. Vu Xuan Truong, residing in Kim Lien collective housing, Dong Da district, reported his mysterious disappearance to the authorities. The victim left home at 11:00 p.m. on July 16, 2002, carrying a grape-colored Thai Dream motorbike.

An investigation was opened. Detectives spread out in many directions to verify the victim Truong's relationships, especially conflicts and love relationships... Among the people living here, Tran Thanh Tung was the most suspected.

Accordingly, in 1997, Tung moved from Quang Ninh to Hanoi to work as a welder and rented this house. Working with Mr. Truong, he was adopted as his son. A year later, both left the company but still maintained a close relationship.

At around 11:30 p.m. on July 17, 2002, Mr. Truong went to Tung's place and discovered that he was about to use heroin. He grabbed the package of drugs, did not let him use it, and tried to advise him. In response to this good intention, Tung demanded to return the "drugs" and used force to take them back. When Mr. Truong was not paying attention, he used the door latch to hit Mr. Truong in the head, causing his death.

In order to cover up the crime, Tung dug a hole with floor tiles and buried the body. The next day, Tung bought 15kg of cement mixed with sand, poured concrete on the surface of the hole, spread a layer of plastic over it, and then put the floor tiles back together.

Tung continued living in the house until the end of October 2002 when the landlord discovered him using drugs and evicted him. When he was arrested, Tung was married and had a 6-month-old child. On August 16, 2005, the Hanoi People's Court sentenced Tung to death for murder and robbery, the combined sentence being death.

At the first instance mobile trial on November 17, 2011, Lam Dong Provincial People's Court sentenced Nguyen Huu Tai (22 years old) to 20 years in prison for murder.

According to the indictment, Mrs. Bui Thi Hong Nhung (44 years old) divorced her husband in 2009, living with her son named Nguyen Huu Tai in Ward 2, Bao Loc City (Lam Dong). When divorcing her husband, Mrs. Nhung promised to give Tai and his brothers a piece of land in Dai Lao Commune, Bao Loc City.

Later, Mrs. Nhung intended to sell that land, so Tai was not satisfied. On the other hand, because Tai was too playful and did not help his mother, Mrs. Nhung often scolded Tai, making him even more upset.

At about 11pm on August 16, 2011, while mother and son were in the bedroom watching TV, Tai asked Mrs. Nhung: "Are you planning to sell the land in Dai Lao?" Mrs. Nhung replied: "What if I sell it?" So Tai had the idea to kill his mother.

A moment later, taking advantage of the moment when Mrs. Nhung was not paying attention, Tai used his hand to hit Mrs. Nhung hard on the back of the neck.

Suddenly hit, Mrs. Nhung screamed and fell to the floor. Tai rushed after her, strangled her to death, and hid her body under the fish tank in front of the house. After that, Tai tried to hide until his family discovered the incident and took him to the police to confess.
