500 rare artifacts at the Buddhist Museum

On the afternoon of December 24, at Quan The Am Pagoda, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Da Nang Museum held the inauguration ceremony of the Vietnam Buddhist Museum.

With an area of ​​about 700 m2, the Buddhist Museum currently preserves more than 500 rare artifacts and antiques such as statues, paintings, bells and various types of dharma instruments... Among them, there are rare statues including the statue of Quan Am giving birth made of white jade and the statue of Bodhisattva riding a dragon cast in bronze, a set of eight statues of Tantric Buddha... which have been recommended by researchers to establish a dossier to be considered national treasures.

In addition, the museum is also preserving and displaying many artifacts such as Buddha statues, Buddhist scripture woodblocks, ancient bronze incense burners, worship objects, etc. dating from the 7th century to the late 19th and 20th centuries.

Venerable Thich Hue Vinh, abbot of Quan The Am pagoda, said that the artifacts displayed at the museum were collected over 40 years by three generations of abbots at the pagoda and preserved until now.

Mr. Tran Quang Thanh, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Da Nang, said that this is the first Buddhist cultural museum in Vietnam. The artifacts and antiques displayed at the museum are not only of Vietnamese style but also of many countries in Southeast Asia. The museum will be open free of charge to welcome visitors from near and far.
