Responding to the above information, US State Department spokesman John Kirby said that diplomats have the right to express opposing opinions and the Obama administration is always ready to listen to them. However, this does not mean that the US will follow the call of this group of diplomats.
Speaking at a regular press conference of the US State Department, Mr. Kirby reaffirmed: “We have been and continue to look for options within the policy framework that we are pursuing as well as options outside of current policy.
But when we look at other options, there is no perfect solution. The best option for Syria is a political process that leads to a transition of the government from Mr. Assad. We believe that a political solution is the best solution for Syria and for the region.”
The US State Department's statement came as Saudi Arabian Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who is on a visit to Washington, also met with President Obama to discuss issues of mutual concern, including Iraq, Iran, Yemen and Syria. Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir also visited Washington.
When asked about the letter from 51 US diplomats criticizing President Obama's policy towards Syria, Mr. al-Jubeir said that since the civil war broke out in Syria more than 5 years ago, the country has promoted "stronger intervention" measures in Syria, such as airstrikes, establishing a no-fly zone...
However, White House spokeswoman Jen Friedman affirmed that Mr. Obama does not consider military as a solution for Syria./.
