54 students poisoned by eating corn kernels have been discharged from hospital
(Baonghean.vn) – As of 7:00 a.m. on April 21, 54 students poisoned by eating parasol seeds have been discharged from the hospital, their health is stable.

After the incident of Nghi Hoa Primary School students (Cua Lo Town) being poisoned by eating parasol fruit, the authorities of the Health and Education sectors were present at the scene to investigate the incident as well as direct emergency and treatment work.
Accordingly, 54 students ate the seeds of the parasol tree behind the school and had to go to the Cua Lo Medical Center for emergency treatment. Some ate a lot, 4 seeds, some ate a little, ½ seed. The initial symptoms were stomachache, nausea and diarrhea after eating. 35/54 students had to be given IV fluids and monitored, no student was seriously poisoned.
By 9:00 p.m. on April 20, 49/54 students were in stable health and had been discharged from the hospital. The remaining 5 students, whose health was weaker, continued to be monitored by doctors. By 7:00 a.m. on April 21, all poisoned students had been discharged from the hospital and returned to school.

After the poisoning, the health sector directed the provincial Food Safety Department to collect and seal samples of lunch food at the elementary school to consider the possibility of food poisoning.
The Department of Health and the Department of Education of Nghe An province have issued recommendations asking schools across the province to replace the parasol trees currently planted on campus (if any) with other types of trees to prevent similar incidents from happening again.
On the afternoon of April 10, 13 students of grades 2A and 2B of Tan Giang Primary School, Ha Tinh City, also picked up the fruits of the parasol tree planted in front of the school gate and shared them to peel the shell to eat the seeds. At around 6 p.m. the same day, after returning home, the students had symptoms such as sweating, stomachache, and nausea, so their parents took them to Ha Tinh General Hospital for emergency treatment. |
